Throughout the USL Super League’s inaugural season, there’s been no team that’s had more players make an impact off the bench than Dallas Trinity FC.
In one of the results of the season against Brooklyn FC on March 9 at the Cotton Bowl, it was Lucy Shepherd’s turn to deliver.
Coming on with 14 minutes to play, the former England U-19 international almost immediately set up a finish for Lexi Missimo to bag her third assist of the season. Shepherd then added her first goal for the club with two minutes to go, capping a 6-0 victory that equaled Dallas’ league-best six-goal haul of the campaign.
“Today we definitely found our way, we found our togetherness again which is key,” said Trinity Head Coach Pauline McDonald postgame. “I think that from our perspective, the players got everything they deserved today.”
Dallas has seen five different players score goals off the bench so far this season, combining for a league-high six goals by substitutes in the Super League’s inaugural campaign.
Sitting on top of the league standings at the three-quarter point of the regular season, that impact could carry the side to the Players’ Shield and provide a serious boost to the club’s title aspirations in June.
