TAMPA, Fla. – The USL Super League announced on Wednesday that Carolina Ascent FC’s Jill Aguilera had been voted the USL Super League Defender of the Year as the Puerto Rican international adds to her end-of-year awards after winning the Golden Playmaker title following the conclusion of the regular season.
The 2024/25 USL Super League Awards were voted on by each club’s technical staff following the conclusion of the 2024/25 USL Super League regular season.
Aguilera joined the Ascent last summer as one of the first announced signings for the club after playing two seasons in the NWSL. The outside back was a key piece in Carolina’s lineup, starting 27 of all 28 regular season matches and contributing to one of the strongest defenses in the league that recorded a league-fewest 24 goals conceded.
In her 2,389 minutes played, Aguilera recorded 101 clearances while winning 99 duels at 62 percent success rate and 28 tackles at 61 percent success rate. She also notched 29 interceptions and 101 recoveries.
Aguilera also frequently got into the attack for Carolina, scoring two goals and tallying a league-high seven assists to win the Golden Playmaker award. She ranked second in the league with 45 chances created along with 52 crosses and 22 total shots.
Aguilera earned the award with the most votes among defenders, followed by Carolina teammate Sydney Studer and finishing third was DC Power FC’s Susanna Fitch.
