Carolina remains at the top behind sixth straight win 

It’s all about consistency and momentum as we head into the final month of regular season play. Carolina Ascent FC continues to set the standard for the rest of the league as it became the first team to clinch a spot in the playoffs. The Ascent picked up its sixth-consecutive win, tying the league record, and have a six-point lead over Dallas as Carolina heads into a three-week hiatus. 

Spokane grabbed a huge win against Tampa Bay on Saturday to move Zephyr into a three-way tie with Fort Lauderdale and Brooklyn. Spokane has scored 10 goals in its last four wins, and with clinching potentially coming down to tiebreakers, an upswing in scoring to increase its goal differential is massive. 

On the other hand, Brooklyn and Fort Lauderdale have struggled to earn results lately; neither team has won in its last five matches. Brooklyn fell at home again, this time to then-last place DC Power FC, and Fort Lauderdale suffered its worst loss of the season to Carolina, also on its home turf. The two sides face each other next week in what will be possibly their biggest matches of the season.

2		Spokane Zephyr FC (9-8-7) Week 31: vs. LEX	2 Last Week: 4	Spokane bounced back from its last loss to Carolina with an impressive 3-2 win against Tampa Bay. Zephyr has won seven of its 10 spring matches, coming back from last place at the break to being in the running for a playoff spot. If the team keeps up this momentum, it very well could reach that feat.
3		Dallas Trinity FC (11-6-7) Week 31: @ TB	Last Week: 3	Trinity earned another three points at home last weekend to keep the pressure on Carolina. Forward Tamara Bolt scored her first goal, as she has become another strong attacking threat beside Allie Thornton and Camryn Lancaster. Now, the team needs to keep this form and get a result against the Sun next week to create some space in the standings.
4		Tampa Bay Sun FC (9-6-9) Week 31: vs. DAL	2 Last Week: 2	Tampa Bay’s three-match winning streak came to an end last weekend at the hands of Spokane, which has defeated the Sun three times this season. Sydny Nasello single-handedly got the team back in the match, but the Sun will need more of a team effort this weekend to take down Dallas and hold on to third place.
5		DC Power FC (4-12-7) Week 31: —	3 Last Week: 8	Despite being eliminated from playoff contention, DC Power has still been playing with fortitude and grit. The team won its first match since November in the 1-0 victory on the road against Brooklyn. Gianna Gourley has completed shifted DC’s offense and has created chances for the team in every match this spring.
6		Fort Lauderdale United FC (9-7-7) Week 31: vs. BKN	1 Last Week: 5	It was disappointing to see Fort Lauderdale drop a 5-2 result to Carolina after getting on the board first in the third minute. After Carolina quickly equalized, FTL UTD never got a hold back in the match until it was too late. The team needs to quickly regroup and get a win over Brooklyn on Saturday to get its momentum going back in the right direction.
7		Lexington SC (4-15-5) Week 31: @ SPK	Last Week: 7	For a team that previously conceded six goals the last time it was at the Cotton Bowl, it was a good defensive showing for Lexington to hold Dallas to just one goal at halftime. However, the team let off the brakes for just a second after equalizing and dropped its fifteenth match of the season.
8		Brooklyn FC (9-9-7) Week 31: @ FTL	2 Last Week: 6	Things don’t look great for Brooklyn, as it finds itself in another three-way tie after falling again to DC Power last weekend. The team is not creating quality looks in front of goal, and it allowed DC to have more possession and shots on its home field. With only three matches left, Brooklyn desperately needs to earn a win this weekend.

Tampa Bay Sun rises to top two after late game-winner 

Tampa Bay Sun FC has found its way to third place in the Super League standings and in second place in this week’s Power Rankings. The Sun has now won three matches in a row and is unbeaten in its last four. The team is finding its stride with five matches to go in the regular season. 

Friday’s match against DC Power marked another gritty win for the Sun, which pulled out the result behind an 88th minute game-winner by Cecilie Fløe off the bench. The Danish international is now tied for first on the team with eight goals and leads the Sun in goal contributions (10). Goalkeeper Ashley Orkus also contributed to the clean sheet with five saves. 

Despite its recent form, Tampa Bay is not yet out of the woods. The upcoming match against Spokane is one to watch, as Zephyr earned a late win at Riverfront Stadium when the teams faced off last month. Tampa Bay will also take on No. 1 Carolina and No. 2 Dallas in May. With the playoff race still so tight, the team must earn results in the rest of its matches to secure a spot in the postseason.

Tampa Bay has some of the top goal scorers in the league but also has so much depth that can come in and change the game off the bench. If it keeps up this form, it has the chance to lock in a playoff spot.
3		Dallas Trinity FC (10-6-7) Week 30: vs. LEX	2 Last Week: 5	Dallas rebounded off its previous loss to Spokane with a strong performance on both ends of the field last Saturday. The new additions of Athalie Palomo and Tamara Bolt have brought both speed and composure to Trinity’s attack that compliments the prowess we’ve already seen this season from Allie Thornton and Chioma Ubogagu.
4		Spokane Zephyr FC (8-8-7) Week 30: vs. TB	2 Last Week: 2	Zephyr started Week 29 with a strong 3-0 win over Lexington before ending on the other side of the same result against Carolina. Despite the loss, Spokane still has a lot of positives to take away from the week and should go into its next home match against Tampa Bay with a lot of confidence.
5		Fort Lauderdale United FC (9-6-7) Week 30: vs. CAR	1 Last Week: 4	While earning a draw at the Cotton Bowl against Dallas is not easy, Fort Lauderdale left two points on the table by not putting away multiple chances on Saturday. The team has been missing some of the clinical finishing it showed earlier this season, and it needs to find it ahead of its upcoming match against Carolina to stay above the playoff line.
6		Brooklyn FC (9-8-7) Week 30: vs. DC	2 Last Week: 8	Despite still not securing a win this Spring Schedule, last weekend was the first time in a while that Brooklyn battled back from a deficit to earn a result. The bright spots were Tori Hansen, who had a great performance in her first start with the team, and two great additions off the bench in Caroline Kelly and Ginger Fontenot.
7		Lexington SC (4-14-5) Week 30: @ DAL	Last Week: 7	Lexington went 0-1-1 in its two matches in Week 29 and is officially out of playoff contention. The team has seen various starting lineups and substitutions this spring, resulting in a lot of inconsistency across matches. However, it allows Lexington to experiment and see what pieces it needs to add heading into the offseason.
8		DC Power FC (3-12-7) Week 30: @ BKN	2 Last Week: 6	Friday’s match was another instance of DC not being able to put away chances and one poor defensive moment cost them a late loss against Tampa Bay. The loss resulted in DC being the other team eliminated last week, but it still has a match in hand over Lexington to have the opportunity to not finish last in the standings.

Carolina Ascent continues to thrive and extended its first-place lead in the standings after picking up wins against DC Power and Brooklyn last week. The team has now won four matches in a row and all were clean sheets, tying the longest shutout streak in the league. 

All eyes have been on Golden Boot race leader Mia Corbin, but the forward wasn’t one of the six Carolina goal scorers from last week. Sarah Troccoli, Jenna Butler, Addisyn Merrick, Jill Aguilera, Audrey Harding and B Hylton all got on the score sheet in the two victories. Corbin did however grab an assist, along with Riley Parker and Taylor Porter, who had two assists on Saturday. 

The Ascent is one of the best teams in the league on both sides of the pitch; the team ranks first in goals for (35) while conceding the least (19) and has the most shutouts at 10. If Carolina can ride this momentum through the end of the regular season, it will set the team up not only for the postseason but in securing the Players’ Shield.

3		Tampa Bay Sun FC (8-5-9) Week 29: @ DC	Last Week: 3	The Sun have earned back-to-back wins and continue to make Riverfront Stadium a fortress. Like last week, each of the goals were scored by different players, including Hannah Keane netting her first of the season, showing the diversity of attacking threats on the Tampa Bay roster.
4		Fort Lauderdale United FC (9-6-6) Week 29: @ DAL	Last Week: 4	FTL UTD has been tested a bit recently, but it bodes well for the team that it fought back from going down a goal and earned a point, especially after being shut out the past two weeks. Its next match against Dallas could be a turning point as it tries to hold on to a top-four spot.
5		Dallas Trinity FC (10-6-6) Week 29: vs. FTL	4 Last Week: 1	Just when Dallas looked like it was back on track after picking up a couple wins, the team was absolutely thwarted by Spokane last weekend. Despite recording 15 shots, only four were on target and it wasn’t enough against Zephyr’s solid backline.
6		DC Power FC (3-11-7) Week 29: vs. TB	Last Week: 6	It’s been a frustrating run for DC this spring, as it has clearly improved in multiple areas but is still not getting the results it needs. Its record since the break is 0-4-3, but all of the losses have been decided by one goal. Last week’s draw against FTL UTD is another example of its phenomenal effort not being enough to earn all three points.
7		Lexington SC (4-13-4) Week 29: vs. SPK; @ BKN	1 Last Week: 8	While it was good to see Lexington prevent another shutout with the goal by Nicole Vernis on Saturday, it still fell 4-1 to Tampa Bay. The defensive struggles have been the biggest obstacle for Lexington this season and the reason why its postseason hopes are hanging in the balance this week.
8		Brooklyn FC (9-8-6) Week 29: vs. LEX	1 Last Week: 7	Things couldn’t look worse for Brooklyn. The team has picked up four points in its last nine matches and is now in a three-way tie for a playoff spot, and it has played more matches than both of them. Something needs to change for Brooklyn, and it needs to happen quickly.

Dallas takes over top spot after two shutout wins 

Carolina Ascent FC, Fort Lauderdale United FC and Brooklyn FC all held the top spot at some point in the last month. However, Dallas Trinity picked up all six points in its double matchweek to become the first team to 10 wins on the season and take its spot at the top of the standings. 

This Spring Schedule has shown the parity amongst the league and that any team can win on any given day. Dallas had two shutout wins last week, but it fell 3-0 to Carolina the week before. Fort Lauderdale was on a nine-match unbeaten streak but lost to Tampa Bay Sun on Saturday for its first loss since November. Brooklyn, which ended the fall with six straight wins, has yet to earn all three points in any of its eight matches since the return from break. 

First through fifth in the standings are separated by only six points, and even sixth-place Spokane Zephyr FC is just seven points below the playoff line and has been taking down higher-ranked teams. As we inch closer to the final day of the regular season on May 31, the key for the four that will head to the playoffs is consistency.

With March Player of the Month and Golden Boot leader, Mia Corbin, at the helm, the team is determined to carry its momentum into the final stretch of the season.
3		Tampa Bay Sun FC (7-5-9) Week 28: vs. LEX	1 Last Week: 4	The Sun is edging closer and closer to a playoff spot, especially after last week’s huge 2-0 win over Fort Lauderdale. It’s even more motivating for Tampa Bay as Jordyn Listro and Ava Tankersley scored their first goals of the season, showing the depth of attacking threats on the roster.
4		Fort Lauderdale United FC (9-6-5) Week 28: vs. DC	3 Last Week: 1	For the first time this season, Fort Lauderdale was shut out in back-to-back matches, and a few defensive miscues resulted in its first loss since November. The team must go back to relying on its big three of Jasmine Hamid, Addie McCain and Kiara Locklear while filling in the gap of injured Laveni Vaka if it wants to keep a top-four spot.
5		Spokane Zephyr FC (6-7-7) Week 28: vs. DAL	2 Last Week: 3	For the third time this spring, Spokane has defeated a team ranked higher than it on the table, most recently winning 1-0 against Brooklyn on Thursday. If Zephyr can maintain this promising form, it has a very real chance of pushing above the playoff line.
6		DC Power FC (3-10-6) Week 28: vs. CAR; @ FTL	Last Week: 6	In DC’s last match against Dallas, the team was creating chances and was controlling just as much of the midfield as Trinity. Power FC was once again plagued by a careless foul in a dangerous area and did not put away opportunities in the final third, losing a match where it very much could have picked up points.
7		Brooklyn FC (9-7-6) Week 28: @ CAR	Last Week: 7	The once-red hot Brooklyn offense seen in the fall has completely fizzled out and is nowhere to be found this spring. The team is 0-4-4 in its eight matches since the break and has been shut out five times. Brooklyn needs a win over Carolina this week as it barely holds on to a playoff spot.
8		Lexington SC (4-12-4) Week 28: @ TB	Last Week: 8	When it rains, it pours in Lexington. The team continues to struggle defensively and has not performed as well offensively as it was before the Winter Break. Lexington has scored in both previous matches against the Sun, giving the team an opportunity to find its stride again and regain some confidence.

Carolina has risen to not only second in the Power Rankings but first in the league standings after taking down Dallas Trinity last weekend. Led by a Mia Corbin brace and another goal from Eli Hutchinson, Carolina secured its second-straight shutout win, the first time it has achieved that feat this season. 

Corbin and midfielder Audrey Harding have been the catalyst for Carolina’s recent offensive success. The duo has scored or assisted on nine of the 10 goals from the team in March. Both recorded braces in the last two matches and have combined for 21 shots and 10 chances created this month. 

On the defensive end, credit goes to center back Jenna Butler, who has continued to hold down the backline since joining the team in January. She recorded seven clearances and two interceptions in Saturday’s match. Goalkeeper Samantha Leshnak Murphy has also asserted her dominance in goal with back-to-back clean sheets.

3		Spokane Zephyr FC (5-7-7) Week 27: vs. BKN	Last Week: 3	Spokane has recorded three wins in its last five matches and held Fort Lauderdale, one the best attacking teams in the league, to a scoreless draw. The team still sits eight points below the playoff line, so the upcoming matches against Brooklyn and Dallas are huge opportunities for Spokane to use its momentum and make a push up the standings.
4		Tampa Bay Sun FC (6-5-9) Week 27: vs. FTL	1 Last Week: 5	Although the Sun is only three points shy of a playoff spot, its recent form has been lacking both energy and consistency, going 1-1-5 in its last seven matches. Natasha Flint has been a shining light however, scoring four goals in the last three matches. Tampa Bay will need her in the upcoming Florida Derby to get back in the win column.
5		Dallas Trinity FC (8-5-6) Week 27: vs. DC	3 Last Week: 2	After two thrilling goal-filled victories over Brooklyn, Dallas suffered a 3-0 loss to Carolina last weekend. When the team is connecting and building on momentum, Dallas is tough to beat. However, once Trinity concedes first, it struggles to get back in the match. Luckily, the upcoming double matchweek provides a chance to earn some of those dropped points back.
6		DC Power FC (3-9-6) Week 27: @ DAL	Last Week: 6	Despite DC’s recent offensive surge, mainly through the talent of Gianna Gourley, it still is not earning the results it would like and remains at the bottom of the table. Power FC proved against Brooklyn it can go toe-to-toe with top-of-the-league teams, but it will need to dig deep and be disciplined defensively this week against Dallas.
7		Brooklyn FC (9-6-6) Week 27: @ SPK	Last Week: 7	Once again, Brooklyn cannot contain its opponents and conceded a late equalizer to draw 2-2 with Tampa Bay last weekend. While Brooklyn has managed to address their goal-scoring drought, the persistent issue of conceding goals continues to plague them, something that will need to be resolved quickly if they hope to reclaim their place at the top of the table.
8		Lexington SC (4-11-4) Week 27: vs. DAL	Last Week: 8	After last week off, Lexington is back in action on Sunday against Dallas, an opponent that dominated Lexington in its first two matches this season. The Girls in Green have an opportunity to turn the tide and pick up a crucial win to keep its season afloat if it’s able to bring back the defensive composure seen in the earlier draw against Brooklyn.

Spokane continues to rise after productive double matchweek 

Since the return from break, Spokane Zephyr FC has been one of the most exciting teams to watch and has propelled itself into a position to earn a spot in the postseason. In Spokane’s five spring matches, it has gone 3-1-1, second to only Fort Lauderdale in that span. 

Spokane’s attack has transformed since the fall and has created more chances on goal. Emina Ekić had already started making a name for herself in the league as one of the most dynamic playmakers, but now combined with Ally Cook, Zephyr’s offense looks even stronger. Midfielder Katie Murray has also gotten forward more often than we saw in the first half of the season to become another attacking option. Ekić, Cook and Murray have combined for 12 shots, six goals and 11 chances created this spring.  

Zephyr’s defense has also continued to be one of the most composed in the league. Center back Sarah Clark has recorded 31 clearances in the last five matches, including the incredible goal-line save against Tampa Bay Sun on Wednesday. The outside backs of Alyssa Bourgeois and Haley Thomas have excelled in shutting down runs on the flanks as well as getting forward in Spokane’s attack. They’ve combined for 19 tackles won, 45 duels won, 33 clearances and seven chances created. 

Spokane’s win last week over the Sun was huge in terms of closing the gap in the standings. Zephyr has nine matches to go, six of which are against higher-ranked opponents. If they can keep picking up points along the way, there’s still a chance for the team to slide into the top four.

2		Dallas Trinity FC (8-4-6) Week 26: @ CAR	Last Week: 2	Trinity picked up right where it left off and earned consecutive victories against Brooklyn after winning 3-0 on Wednesday. Camryn Lancaster has quickly shown what an asset she is to the team, and 17-year-old Sealey Strawn continues to make a case for why she’s one of the best young stars in the league.
3		Spokane Zephyr FC (5-7-7) Week 26: —	2 Last Week: 5	After earning back-to-back stoppage time wins, Spokane held the team on a scoring streak to its first shutout since November. So long as Zephyr keeps playing hard the full 90+ minutes and capitalizing on goal-scoring opportunities, the team will continue to rise in the standings.
4		Carolina Ascent FC (8-5-7) Week 26: vs. DAL	Last Week: 4	Carolina finally earned the big win that had been brewing over the past few weeks. The team jumped out to an early lead and never let off the gas. Riley Parker and Audrey Harding recorded their first goals of the season, and the Ascent earned its first clean sheet of the spring.
5		Tampa Bay Sun FC (6-5-8) Week 26: @ BKN	2 Last Week: 3	Tampa Bay fought back against Spokane and found a late equalizer in Wednesday’s match before ultimately falling 2-1 in stoppage time. The team has struggled to put away some of its other chances in the final third, and averaging one goal per game this spring will rarely be enough to earn wins in this league.
6		DC Power FC (3-9-6) Week 26: —	1 Last Week: 7	Gianna Gourley has been on fire for DC Power since her trade over the break, and she has played a key role in the points DC has earned this spring. If DC was a little bit more organized defensively, it possibly could have gotten a win over Brooklyn last weekend.
7		Brooklyn FC (9-6-5) Week 26: vs. TB	1 Last Week: 8	Just when it seemed like Brooklyn would pick up its first win of the spring, it conceded a late equalizer and had to split points with DC after falling 3-0 to Dallas midweek. Individual errors are costing the team, along with the fact that it is still not able to capitalize on scoring opportunities like it did in the fall.
8		Lexington SC (4-11-4) Week 26: —	2 Last Week: 6	Once Lexington conceded in the second minute, the team struggled to find its footing in the match. Clearing lines continues to be the Achilles heel for this team, and it also is not scoring at the rate it was at the beginning of the season.

Two braces highlighted two big wins in Week 24 of the USL Super League. Spokane forward Emina Ekić scored a brace, including the stoppage-time game-winner, in Zephyr’s come-from-behind win over DC Power FC. Fort Lauderdale United FC winger Sh’Nia Gordon also scored twice in the 2-0 win that catapulted the team to the top of the league standings. 

Ekić equalized in the 65^th minute from the penalty spot, where she is now a perfect three-for-three this season. Then, the Bosnian international took a free kick right outside the box and whipped it into the back of the net in the second minute of stoppage time. It was just the second direct free kick goal in the league this season, and the first-ever brace in club history. 

Later Saturday night, Gordon scored in both halves of the match against Brooklyn to earn Fort Lauderdale its ninth win of the season. FTL UTD set a record of scoring in eight consecutive matches and is undefeated during that span (6-0-2). Gordon is now tied for third on the team with three goals this season.

Sh’Nia Gordon scored the second brace in club history to pick up the team’s third win in the last four matches. It was also a great performance in goal for Cosette Morché as she earned her fourth clean sheet.
2		Dallas Trinity FC (7-4-6) Week 25: @ BKN	Last Week: 2	Despite the last-minute rescheduling last week, Dallas Trinity gets extra time off to prep for the midweek match against Brooklyn. After Dallas’ dominant showing against the same team in Week 23, Trinity can carry that momentum into Wednesday and try to win its second match in a row.
3		Tampa Bay Sun FC (6-4-8) Week 25: vs. SPK	1 Last Week: 4	After recording four consecutive draws, it was imperative for Tampa Bay to earn a win at home to try to move up the standings. Natasha Flint scored her fifth goal of the season by capitalizing on an error right outside the box and the Sun defeated Carolina for the second this season.
4		Carolina Ascent FC (7-5-7) Week 25: @ LEX	1 Last Week: 3	Just when it seemed like Ascent had re-found its scoring stride, the team was shutout despite recording 13 corners and nine total shots. One error cost the team the game in an otherwise strong defensive effort, but Carolina has a lot of positives to take away from the match before it faces Lexington on Sunday.
5		Spokane Zephyr FC (4-7-6) Week 25: @ TB; @ FTL	3 Last Week: 8	Spokane lost its first lead but clawed back to earn all three points against DC Power on Saturday. The team lost its defensive shape a few times throughout the match, but the group that had once been struggling to score has now netted five goals in the last three matches.
6		Lexington SC (4-10-4) Week 25: vs. CAR	1 Last Week: 5	Like Dallas, the week off can do Lexington some good as it prepares for its final test against Carolina this Saturday. When the sides met last month, Lexington held more possession but didn’t make the most of its opportunities until the final 10 minutes of the match. A strong, early start could be the key to Lexington earning back-to-back wins.
