Some of the best photos from the USL Super League Inaugural Weekend with matches in Charlotte, NC, Spokane, WA, and Tampa, FL.

A new chapter in women’s soccer history in the United States began in style this weekend as the USL Super League kicked off its inaugural season.
Statisticians will look back at the Super League’s Inaugural Weekend and point to the first starting lineups, the first goalscorers, and the first final results.
But stats don’t tell the story of the moment.
Sold-out crowds for all three Inaugural Weekend matches, in Charlotte, Spokane, and Tampa, showcased the excitement the women’s soccer community has for more professional women’s soccer in our country. The fans packed the stands to watch top-flight action in their hometown and to be part of another evolution in women’s sports history.
Carolina Ascent FC 1, DC Power FC 0
The historic first match in USL Super League history was the place to be in Charlotte. A sold-out crowd of 10,553 was treated to a season-opening victory.
North Carolina native Vicky Bruce scored the game’s only goal, in the 27th minute. She pounced on a loose ball in the box after a long freekick from the right side, pushing it away from Power FC goalkeeper Morgan Aquino and slotting it home for the score.
The goal sent the home crowd — the largest ever to witness a pro women’s soccer match in the Carolinas — into a frenzied celebration.
DC Power pressed throughout the second half, but the Ascent defense held its ground. When goalkeeper Meagan McClelland made a clutch save in stoppage time, the result was all but confirmed.
The victory certainly thrilled the home fans, but the night was about more than the points. The fans — and the entire community — were clearly excited to be part of a historic moment, to have the chance to say “I was there when the USL Super League began.” They cheered every good play, gasped at every near miss, and stayed long after the final whistle to meet and get selfies with the players.
This was a moment to remember for everyone.
Spokane Zephyr FC 1, Fort Lauderdale United FC 1
Sharing the points on opening night did nothing to dampen the thrill of the either club’s first match in history.
A sold-out crowd at ONE Spokane Stadium were treated to a back-and-forth clash with each side scoring on either side of the halftime break.
Zephyr FC broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when striker Emina Ekic rifled home a penalty. Ekic had created the opportunity after nutmegging FTLUTD defender Sheyenne Allen before being taken down in the box.
Spokane seemed capable of scoring another goal in the second half, but Fort Lauderdale pressed back again and again. The visiting Floridians outshot their hosts 11-6 on the night.
In the 72nd minute, FLTUTD broke through when Addie McCain fired home the equalizer. Both sides had a few late chances but settled for a share of the points on the night.
Tampa Bay Sun FC 1, Dallas Trinity FC 1
Despite humid conditions and temperatures in the 90s at kickoff, the Inaugural Weekend’s closing match provided plenty of energy and action and a thrilling memorable night for the sold-out crowd at Riverfront Stadium.
Dallas dominated most of the match, outshooting Tampa 14-6, and probably deserved three points. They unleashed multiple attacks early on but were thwarted repeatedly by Sun goalkeeper Ashley Orkus.
They finally broke through in first-half stoppage time. Defender Hannah Davison scored off a pinpoint cross from English winger Chioma Ubogagu.
But despite a few more chances and a clear advantage in midfield, Trinity FC could not hold the lead. Off a 70th-minute corner kick, Ashley Clark‘s cross was headed home by Brooke Hendrix, sending the home supporters into wild celebrations.
Here we go!

Ever since the USL W League launched in 2022, its purpose has been to develop the next generation of women’s talent and enhance the pipeline between college and professional soccer. Later this month, that purpose will come to fruition right within the USL’s own ecosystem.
The inaugural 2024/25 USL Super League season kicks off on August 17, and 52 W League alums will be a part of it. Each one of the eight Super League clubs will have at least two former W League players on their rosters, with one club having as many as 10.
Many of these players were a part of the first W League season two years ago and have gone on to play professionally elsewhere before returning to USL to join the Super League. Others were just with their W League clubs competing this summer after finishing their college careers.
In total, 25 W League clubs will be represented this season in the Super League. Not only are the alums bringing their exceptional talents to the new league, but some are coming in with championship experience. Sydney Martinez, a goalkeeper for Brooklyn FC, won the inaugural W League title and Final MVP with South Georgia Tormenta FC, and Carolina Ascent FC defender Annika Creel was a part of the 2023 championship run with Indy Eleven.
The W to Super League pipeline also extends farther than just players. Former FC Olympia head coach Ben Willis led the W League club to an undefeated first half of the 2024 season before departing to join Lexington SC’s coaching staff.
With both leagues expanding in the coming years, this is just the first group of alums who are making the leap. It will be exciting to see how that group grows over time and how the players continue to prove the efficacy of the pathway.

Amber Brooks knows a thing or two about joining a brand-new league. The 32-year-old, who was the 24th overall pick in the 2013 National Women’s Soccer League’s inaugural draft class, now sets her sights on the USL Super League joining Dallas Trinity FC.
“There are a lot of talented players and not enough professional options for them in the United States,” Brooks said. “The Super League is providing 150 more professional playing opportunities for women in the US for American players and internationals who want to play here for a league that aligns with the international calendar.”
Through her time in youth soccer and her pro career, Brooks has created and maintained a strong network of support in the soccer community including Amanda Vandervort, USL Super League President. Through Vandervort’s mentorship, Brooks found herself drawn to the Super League which plays according to the international calendar and has all-time free agency.
“From the first conversation we had about the league back in 2022, I remember thinking from that instant it sounded great,” Brooks said. “I have full trust in the leadership of the Super League which is important to me as a player. This league is player-centric.”
Although the free agent was unable to play another season in the NWSL, she sees this opportunity with Dallas Trinity as the perfect way to play out the rest of her professional career and hone mentorship skills of her own. In fact, Brooks one day hopes to transition from the field to the front office. She recently completed a Master in Football Business and Management program through the Sports Business Institute in Barcelona.
“Anyone who knows me knows that my aspiration is to be a general manager or sporting director in the women’s game when I’m done playing,” Brooks said. “My strengths off the field are suited for the role. I’m taking a data analytics course in the fall and I just love learning.”
Through the ups and downs of her own 12-year long career, Brooks feels ready for this moment – to not only give it her all on the field, but to make sure that her teammates, especially the newer pros, get the support they need to give it their all, too.
“I am someone who is a natural leader, whether I’m a captain or not, I don’t need the title – that’s something my experience brings,” Brooks said. “I can be a vocal leader, but I also like to lead by example.
During her years playing for the Houston Dash, Brooks saw first-hand the passion the Dallas area has for women’s soccer. In 2017 following Hurricane Havery, the Dash played and trained at the FC Dallas facilities to great reception from the local fans.
“I never understood why Dallas didn’t have a team,” Brooks said. “I’ve known for years Dallas has a big soccer culture. It’s a hotbed for women’s soccer talent so the fact that they haven’t had a women’s team for now never made sense to me.”
Now, Brooks is ready to take full advantage of the Dallas soccer culture as she looks to bring success to the city’s first-ever women’s professional soccer team.
From her first conversations with Dallas Trinity ownership and general manager Chris Petrucelli, Brooks knew Dallas would be the perfect spot where she could not only continue to play, but help mentor a younger generation of talent and also observe a first-class front office at work.
“Brooks is known for her leadership qualities,” said Petrucelli. “As an experienced and skilled professional soccer player who has played in a number of leagues and for the U.S. Women’s National Team, her talent and knowledge of this sport will benefit Dallas Trinity FC on and off the field. We believe she will inspire and motivate her teammates at every turn.”
Although she’s closer to the end of her career than the beginning, Brooks has not lost the fire or drive that has helped her find success on the pitch. She loves to compete, even in practice, and still doesn’t think she’s reached her full potential on the pitch.
“I love competing, learning, and getting better,” Brooks said. “I love going to bed at night knowing I got better today. Whether it’s on or off the field, I genuinely love working to get better.”
In fact, her dedication to constant improvement is exactly what makes her a perfect fit for Dallas’ new professional women’s team.
“Her work ethic, dedication, and commitment to the sport make her a role model for younger players and young athletes in our community who may be watching – and inspired by – professional women’s soccer for the first time,” said Petrucelli.
As Brooks, her fiancé, and her dog Henley get ready for their new lives in Dallas, she’s ready to give it her all for a city that she knows is itching for a professional women’s team – and she’s ready to make her new city proud.
“Our roster is going to be so exciting with a good mix of youth and experience both domestic and international,” she said. “I’m at the tail end of my career, but I still have a lot to give.”

The Super League is thrilled to be providing elite players the opportunity to compete at the highest level and give fans the chance to watch top-tier on-field competition.”
USL Super League clubs have begun building their rosters and will convene for preseason starting on July 1.
INAUGURAL COMPETITION STRUCTURE & PLAYOFF FORMAT

Structuring the schedule in two phases – Fall Schedule and Spring Schedule, separated by a Winter Break – allows the league to provide the players with an important mid-season break to rest and recover and ensures that fans can enjoy the highest quality of action throughout the season.
The full regular season will run from August 2024 to late May 2025.
At the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in the league table standings will qualify for the 2024/25 USL Super League Playoffs.
The inaugural USL Super League Playoffs will consist of a single-elimination, fixed-bracket format featuring two semifinals and a final. The postseason will culminate in the 2024/25 USL Super League Final, where the first-ever champions will be crowned.
More info on the full Spring Schedule and playoff dates will be released in the coming months.

New women’s professional team to play its home matches at the historic Cotton Bowl in the heart of Dallas
Today, the USL Super League celebrates the launch of Dallas’ new top-tier women’s professional soccer club: Dallas Trinity FC.
During a celebration event in Dallas today, the club unveiled its name, crest, and colors, and announced it would play its home matches at the iconic Cotton Bowl Stadium.
This announcement marks a monumental step toward the club taking the field in August when the new women’s professional league kicks off.
Reflecting a determination to build a professional women’s soccer team as dynamic as the city it calls home, Dallas Trinity FC, led by Chief Executive Officer Jim Neil, will play under the main colors of sunrise maroon, prairie gold, and live oak green. The colors draw inspiration from the city skyline and the Trinity River, which reflects the vibrant nature of Dallas, as well as local pride and excellence.
“Soccer is the pathway to community for many families. Dallas is the perfect backdrop for our expansion, growth, and community to grow wings,” said Jim Neil.
Dallas proves to be an ideal city to launch a professional women’s soccer team considering its rich history and promising future surrounding girls soccer. In 1973, the Dallas Sting became the first all-girls soccer club in the United States, and the Dallas Cup, founded in 1980, is still the most prestigious youth soccer tournament in the country. Currently, the Dallas region is home to more girls soccer players than anywhere else in the country, according to the U.S. Youth Soccer Association.
“North Texas has been waiting for this, and now is the right time for professional women’s soccer in Dallas – the best sports business city in the country,” said Charlie Neil, Dallas Trinity FC President.
